A much-anticipated highlight of Tanzania safaris is Serengeti National Park, the country’s largest preserve. With 5,700 square miles of plains reaching toward the horizon, the Serengeti boasts one of the world’s most diverse animal populations. The greatest density of wildlife experienced on Tanzania safaris is in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, also known as "Africa’s Eden." Safari guests descend nearly 2,000 feet into the Ngorongoro Crater to view large herds of gazelle, zebra, wildebeest and the predators that stalk them.

Most Tanzania safari itineraries spend time at Lake Manyara National Park where a varied landscape of thick forests, bush plains and hot springs nurture plentiful wildlife like elephants, impalas, giraffes, pink flamingos, hornbills and the Earth’s largest concentration of baboons. South of Lake Manyara lies Tarangire National Park, which has a significant elephant population.

Tanzania safaris can provide opportunities to meet members of the Maasai community, and on some trips guests may spend time at a Maasai school. A few itineraries travel to the "Spice Island" of Zanzibar, off Tanzania’s coast. Tanzania also is home to Africa’s tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, whose snowcapped summit soars beyond 19,000 feet.
